Attributes govern a character's proficiency in various skills. The base attributes are:

[edit] Level up attribute modifiers

Increasing any combination of skills governed by the same attribute will allow a bonus modifier for this attribute equal to the number of relevent skill increases during the next level up, maximized at a +5 modifier. Unlike in Morrowind, whether the skills are major or minor has no effect on level up modifiers.

[edit] Strategy

For those who wish to control their level progression, don't take skills you often use as major skills, but rather those that are easily controlled. Doing so allows you total control of your attribute modifiers when you gain a level. Also make sure you take at least one skill from each attribute (excluding Luck) to ensure the best results.

For the best possible level progression, it is recommended to maximize your Endurance attribute first. Endurance determines your maximum amount of health points, as well as the amount of health you gain per level. Since the points you put into endurance are not retroactive, you want the highest amount of endurance at the lowest possible level.

If you want to raise your Luck attribute to the maximum, you will need to put at least one point into it every level. Luck never gets a modifier when you gain a level, so you will need to put a total of 50 points into it to get the maximum of 100 points. This means spending one point on luck every level for 50 levels. However, you can start the game with a Luck attribute of 65 if you take the Thief (birthsign) and also choose Luck as one of your two favored attributes.
