As part of Join the Mages Guild, you must get a recommendation from each city's Mages Guild Hall.
[edit] Walkthrough
In this quest, you must try to find J'skar. He is invisible, and Volanaro says you must play a prank on Jeanne Frasoric. Volanaro doesn't think that Jeanne is worthy of being their leader and often plays tricks on her. Talk to Volanaro and get your disposition high enough for him to offer to help you. He will teach you a spell to open easy locks, which costs less magicka then the normal Open Easy Lock spell.
The prank involves going upstairs, unlocking Jeanne's desk (whether you use the scroll or a lockpick, it doesn't matter) and stealing her Manual of Spellcraft.
Volanaro then tells you to wait until 10 pm and meet him downstairs in the living quarters. He will reveal J'skar to you, and you can go upstairs and wake up the Guild Leader and tell her you found him. Quest Completed!
[edit] Alternative Walkthrough
If you can cast Dispel on touch or target, you can dispel the invisibility on J'skar and not have to go through the trouble of stealing the book and waiting until after 10 pm. Finding J'skar may be a bit tricky, however, since he moves around. It is recommended that you use a spell with Detect Life to do so.
- NOTE: DO NOT steal Jeanne's key, as this will kick you out of the guild.
