Hackdirt

From the OblivioWiki – your guide to everything Oblivion

Hackdirt is a small secluded town located directly south of Chorrol. It is roughly one third the way to Skingrad. It lies between Fort Carmala and Wendir.

All the residents of this town will act quite rude and threatening towards you. They do not like outsiders in Hackdirt. Talking to towns-folk, you'll learn that their town was once burnt to the ground by some outsiders. Conversation with other NPCs reveals that Hackdirt was burned by the Imperial Legion. For this reason, the citizens of Hackdirt are extremely agitated, and will become hostile if you linger for too long.

Most of the buildings and homes in Hackdirt will have a trap door in the floor on the bottom floor. The trap doors lead to connecting tunnels that lie underground Hackdirt.

Once you complete the quest Shadow Over Hackdirt the whole town may be hostile to you save for Jiv Hiriel and Vlanhonder and Etira Moslin. This can be avoided if you have maxed out the dispositions of all of the towns residents. Any surviving Hackdirt Brethren will be hostile.

[edit] Locations

  • Moslin's Inn - Run by Vlanhonder Moslin, and built by his father. Beds here will cost you 30 gold a night. Vlanhonder has no barter option.
  • Moslin's Dry Goods - Run by Etira Moslin. Etira has a very small selection consisting of Bear Pelts and Iron Arrows only.
  • Chapel of the Brethren - A somewhat mysterious church located in Hackdirt. On the front pedestal there is a book named Bible of the Deep Ones, written in Daedric text. This book is also signed by Irlav Moslin with a description of how he got it. It isn't possible to pray in this church.

[edit] Notes

  • Taking the Bible is not considered as stealing before the topic "the Brethren" appears among the villagers.
  • Hackdirt is the biggest settlement in the game even if most of the houses are burnt down. It is also the only settlement with an inn and a general store.
  • The houses hold the same architecture as the ones in Chorrol.
  • Some members of the town have a habit of following you around the city, and even outside of it. It's not uncommon to fast travel out of the town then suddenly be insulted by a villager that followed you. They will then usually head right back to the town.
