Martin Septim

(Redirected from Illegitimate son)

Martin Septim (Born 3E387 Died 3E433 or Later) was a priest at the Chapel of Akatosh in Kvatch.

The heir to the throne and also your biggest aid in solving the main quest.

Martin Septim was the illegitimate son of Emperor Uriel Septim VII, who was after his birth entrusted to the Captain of the Emperor's Bodyguard and later Grandmaster, Jauffre, who placed the boy in a safe place. When he grew up, Martin was informed that he was the son of a farmer who was slain, and during his upbringing was looked over by the supposed priest. From time to time, Uriel Septim VII would ask Jauffre, the only one aware of the child's true nature, about the child.

During his youth, and because of the reckless teenage years, Martin grew away from the life of a monastery, choosing instead to seek out and dabble in Daedric magic. He acquired a Daedric artifact known as the Sanguine Rose, but after an incident took the lives of his friends, he forsook his ways and returned to the life of a priest. Little more about him is known, except that at some point, he moved to Kvatch to aid people as a priest.

Later, when Uriel Septim VII was murdered, and all his sons except Martin were slain by the Mythic Dawn, a Gate to Oblivion opened within the walls of Kvatch and Daedra overran the city guard- it was evening, and unexpected, but Martin and a few others managed to move into the temple, where they awaited rescue. Later, when the Hero of Kvatch approached Martin and told him of his heritage, Martin was at first hesitantly disbelieving, but whether by perception of truth or by inward vision, he believed the Hero to be telling the truth.

They returned to Weynon Priory, where Jauffre had kept the Amulet of Kings, only to find assassins of the Mythic Dawn chasing the stable-boy down the road. Once the whole of them were dispatched and Jauffre aided, they discovered the Amulet had been stolen. Though this would be a grave incident, the fact that Martin Septim was still safe was heartening, and the 3 of them rode to Cloud Ruler Temple, the fortress of the Blades, just north of Bruma. It was here that Martin began to study for clues to look for a way to retrieve the Amulet of Kings.

Once the Hero of Kvatch managed to find the lair of the Mythic Dawn and steal the Mysterium Xarxes, Martin, who was skilled enough in Daedric magic to keep from succumbing to the evil of the tome, managed to decipher the book to find a way into Mankar Camoran's Paradise. The blood of the Daedra, the blood of the Divine, a Great Welkynd Stone, and a Great Sigil Stone, were needed. while the Hero of Kvatch was able to gather the first 3 of these items easily, the 4th required that a Great Gate of Oblivion would need to be opened. Though the plan was risky, by allowing the Great Gate to open and risk the destruction of Bruma, the Hero of Kvatch managed to claim the orb, as Martin and the allied forces of Cyrodiil battled outside the gate.

Using a ritual to gain entry into Mankar Camoran's Paradise, the Hero managed to reclaim the Amulet of Kings. Though the fact that only Martin could wear it was not needed to assure him that he was the Emperor's son, the fact that it was in his possession was still significant. He and the Hero made way to the Imperial City to speak to Chancellor Ocato, who was filling the position for the time being. Before the Coronation could be completed, however, another Oblivion Gate opened, allowing Mehrunes Dagon and his forces to invade. With the Hero's help, however, Martin was able to get to the Temple of the One, whereupon he transformed into a towering dragon, and did battle with Mehrunes Dagon until the Daedric prince was defeated. With this done, the Dragon turned into a statue, and Oblivion would be held at bay from that time, though at the cost of Martin Septim and the lineage of the Dragonborn.
