[edit] Extremely Slow-Loading Site
The site network is loading extremely slow on my computer. By slow, I mean 1-2 minute load time per page. It seems like everytime I want to visit the site, it's undergoing this problem. Is there something wrong with the server, or is it just my browser playing tricks with me? --Aristeo 23:29, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
- I'm not sure if it's your browser but when I access this site from work it usually takes a min or so to load pages using internet explorer. When I access the site from my home computer using [1]firefox it loads pages in a few seconds at most generally. If you don't have or haven't tried using firefox try it and see if it helps any. I don't know enough about this stuff to say anything else but good luck. Hellhound43 18:00, 2 September 2006 (CDT)
- I use Internet Explorer 6 and I have no loading speed problems. It used to be slow prior to the MediaWiki update a week ago or so, but so far it's been speedy. Perhaps it's a temporary ISP slowdown on your end? --theSpectator talk 02:13, 3 September 2006 (CDT)
Hmm.. It's much faster now. Seems like whenever I've asked for help lately, the problem always went away. :P --Aristeo 21:03, 3 September 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Is Something Wrong?
Quick question for someone.
I have been trying to gets my skill attributes up by visiting the trainers. I have a list of the trainers and what they train in(thanks to Wiki), but when I talk to them it doesn't have the option to train. And the people I can train with, it tells me that I can't be trained any furthor by this trainer. Is it just my player? Whats going on?
Hope someone can help! Thanks
- I will answer your question by explaining how trainer's work. Each trainer can train one skill up to a certain level, based on what level they can train to. Take Rohssan for example. She is a journeyman trainer of armorer, this means that she can train your armorer skill up to around 50, and once you become an expert armorer (75-99) either she or Rasheda should refer you to Gin-Wulm, the Master armorer trainer who can train you all the way to 100. The only way a master trainer will train you is if you get referred to them.
- One thing you also need to keep in mind is that not all trainers are available every hour of the day, as some of them go to sleep, eat, or simply wander, but every trainer has a time of the day where they are in a certain spot or activity where they should be able to offer their training service. Going back to the Rohssan example I don't believe that she will train you at anytime when she's gone from behind her counter at "A Fighting Chance". As far as I know the only exception to this rule should be most of the master trainers, as they gernally tend to stay in one area anyway.
- If there are any particular trainers you are having trouble with, please feel free to post a question on the Trainer talk page, and someone such as myself will try to help as best we can. Or if you prefer, feel free to ask me on my talk page. \*\ Hellhound43 07:31, 27 September 2006 (CDT)
Hello there, I have a new suggestion. The option to train is not in the talk topics selection, it's in a little button at the bottom of the screen. That might be the source of ur confusion. - Teh_Doctor
[edit] Spell categorization and organization
The spells category as well as the lists of spells are currently unorganized in terms of how we go about deciding which spells have articles and which don't.
- General spells
- Most spells are pretty straightforward, such as those bought from spell merchants, so I don't think that those spells need their own individual articles. Instead, a spell should just be referred to the base spell, such as Cure, Chameleon, Summon, or Fire Damage. For example, in the List of Restoration spells, Fortify Agility, Greater Fortify Agility, etc. all link to Fortify. The Fortify article should list all the spells that have Fortify, as well as their stats. By the way, I don't think we need to redirect every single spell to their base spell (as is done on that spell list).
- Blessings of the gods
- However, unique spells or enchantments, such as the Blessings of different gods each have their own very brief article. I think those should either:
- Be combined into one Blessings of the gods article, or
- Be merged into each main god's altar article
- Each Wayshrine article already includes the blessing stats you get from activating the wayshrine.
- Greater, lesser powers
- The same question applies to Greater Powers and Lesser Powers: Does each individual power need it's own article, or should their just be a list of Greater Powers with a brief description and stats?
To summarize, although the organization will be slightly different depending on the type of spell, the main question is: Is there any case when a spell/blessing/enchantment need its own article? --theSpectator talk 13:39, 29 September 2006 (CDT)
- I think the general spells have pretty much been covered with the existing explanations of the spell effects, I really don't see (and dread) the point of making an article for every variation of a spell effect where the only difference is Duration, Area, Magitude or affect. The Blessings and Greater/Lesser Powers I could understand as some of these are unique abilities but i don't think each needs it's own article, a list should suffice. --William Blackstaff 11:03, 30 September 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Third-party content
Should we have third-party mods on our site? I just noticed Oldblivion, which is a third-party mod. I don't think we should have any third-party content, especially since Oblivion Mod Wiki exists for that purpose. We should just stick to stuff straight from Bethesda. --theSpectator talk 14:27, 27 December 2006 (CST)
- Agreed, I think all we need to do if we don't already is link to some mod sites such as that one, TES Source, or any other noteworthy sites. \*\ Hellhound43 15:19, 27 December 2006 (CST)
- If anyone actually sees this, I don't know. But, since we are a wiki and our .. ahem "obligation," and I use that term lightly; is to allow any Oblivion player insight and our own opinion. Whether or not we should have third-party content is up to the administrators, but we should have a page concerning mods and any third party sites, because not everyone is going to go for the Bethesda official mods. Dragon of the Imperial 15:18, 4 January 2007 (CST)
- Well, we do have Links and Mod to refer to, which have good external links to other mods and mod sites. --theSpectator talk 16:18, 4 January 2007 (CST)
- Leave the mods to sites like Planetelderscrolls. But It'd be nice to have a link to 'Kvatch no attack'. That mod is pretty great. Molotov 10:30, 24 April 2008
[edit] Wiki images and permissions
Is it at all possible to get the permission problem fixed for the /skins/common/images/ folder on the server? This will fix the missing Wiki images issue. It would also make the error log on the server a lot smaller :]
This is the current information that is presented when viewing an image directly.
Forbidden You don't have permission to access /skins/common/images/magnify-clip.png on this server.
Tig 05:00, 28 December 2006 (CST)
- Well I'm confused, I've never had a problem like this. You should probably talk to Gravewit about it, but you'd have to ask on the forums or blog (Gamewikis) since I doubt that he'd answer here. \*\ Hellhound43 12:21, 28 December 2006 (CST)
- Hmm, I've never had that error before when accessing images. Could you be more specific at what images or pages do that? --theSpectator talk 14:34, 28 December 2006 (CST)
[edit] Google group
Do we need our google group? It hasn't been used in months and I'd be willing to close it if everyone agrees. --theSpectator talk 19:32, 29 December 2006 (CST)
- Personally I've never really seen the point of it, we have our talk pages, the talk pages of articles, plus the e-mail feature. Also I don't think there are enough active members on the site to warrant a place where we can talk as a group. If it were more active, I would probably start using it, but as you said it's never used. \*\ Hellhound43 20:32, 29 December 2006 (CST)
- Alright, I'm going to close it.--theSpectator talk 20:57, 29 December 2006 (CST)
[edit] Individual weapon pages; Weapon stats
There are two things I've wanted to work on to help finalize the weapon pages:
- One of the things that has been unresolved for a long time is the need for individual weapon pages. This applies only to the base weapons, without enchantments (enchanted weapons can have individual pages). So for example at Ebony weapons, do we really need an individual weapon page for each basic weapon (as in Ebony Arrow and Ebony Mace)?
- In my opinion, I don't think we do because all that page will contain is the same information of stats and possibly a picture.
- The second thing is: To what extent do we flesh out all the weapon stats? Currently, we have value, weight, and base damage. Other stats that could be included are the health, speed, and reach of the weapon. All those stats are easily accessible in the CS; the only thing is that it'll take time to add in the stats for all weapons.
- It doesn't matter too much to me, although it can be a good thing if people take those stats into account when choosing weapons.
Any thoughts? --theSpectator talk 15:50, 1 January 2007 (CST)
- No, weapon (or armor) pages don't need individual articles. Any picture can simply be put on the main page, or put in a gallery if there are more than 2 or 3 pics.
- Ya I think we should include those stats, as some people do consider them important. If no one else gets to it I'll work on it when I start finishing the enchanted/leveled weapons lists. \*\ Hellhound43 17:43, 1 January 2007 (CST)
- Okay, will work on weapons. I have to change Template:Weapon; what order should we have the stats listed? Currently Base Value, Weight, and Base Damage.
- This is just a test: Health, Speed, Reach, Base Value, Weight, Base Damage.
- --theSpectator talk 18:26, 1 January 2007 (CST)
- I would say flip around health, speed, and reach with value, weight, and damage; that way they are on the end, just makes a bit more sense to me. \*\ Hellhound43 18:31, 1 January 2007 (CST)
- Like this?
- --theSpectator talk 19:23, 1 January 2007 (CST)
- EDIT: Oh, and do we need icons for speed and reach? There aren't any, so we'd have to make some; not sure what to use. --theSpectator talk 19:24, 1 January 2007 (CST)
Looks nice, good job! I don't think icons are necessary. If we haven't already, we should probably mention what health, speed, and reach all mean on the weapon page or something similar. \*\ Hellhound43 19:58, 1 January 2007 (CST)
What the hell do we need health for anyway?! Its pretty obvious all weapons get 100 health until they're used. It seems kinda pointless dontcha think? Molotov 10:38, 24 April 2008
[edit] Stylized icons
I only know the basics of Photoshop, so if anyone can make stylized icons of these icons here, similar to how GuildWiki's icons here and here are stylized, that'd be much appreciated. Other icon requests include the red hand (when you mouse over an owned object) and stylized
,
,
,
, that'd be cool too. --theSpectator talk 19:51, 8 January 2007 (CST)
[edit] Mod vs. plug-in
Should we refer to the official modifications/plug-ins that Bethesda releases as "mods" or "plug-ins" (or something else that's better)? The official site refers to them as "plug-ins" or "content," which I would agree with, as I tend to think of "mods" as third-party creations.
Also, should Mod be moved to Modification (currently it redirects the other way), since technically it's an shortening of the full word? (I just redirected plug-in to mod also.)--theSpectator talk 01:45, 13 January 2007 (CST)
- Agreed, I'll get right on it. \*\ Hellhound43 11:36, 13 January 2007 (CST)
[edit] Ventrilo
Hello fellow Oblivion Players! I finally picked up Oblivion about a month ago, and and now an addict :p. i found this wiki page looking up what to do on certain quests, and really liked the setup and the quality. my frined also picked up the game, and we set up a ventrilo server for our own use. we are really the only two peopel that use it right now, but all members here are more than welcome to coem on and vist it. heres the IP: 169.226.234.40:3784 as of now, its running of my friends computer in albany, so it only holds 8 people, but feel free to stop by anytime!
[edit] Propose moving articles in Game Concepts and Game Info to new category Category:Game mechanics
I'm proposing a moving articles in Category:Game Concepts and Category:Game Info to a new category Category:Game mechanics, as the newer category provides a more specific and appropriate name for the articles contained within. Most of the articles in "Game Concepts" would fit well under "Game mechanics" (and that is the name of the box on the main page). A few articles would have category readjustments, such as Storyline's category be changed to Category:Lore.
However, several articles in "Game Info" wouldn't fit so well, (e.g. Bethesda Softworks and the various TES games. For those, I propose renaming the category to Category:Game information (mainly a fuller name), or something general along those lines. What do you all think? --theSpectator talk 02:12, 29 April 2007 (CDT)
- I will be adjusting the categories within the next week or two. Suggestions, comments, etc still welcome. --theSpectator talk 01:38, 10 May 2007 (CDT)
- Okay, done. See Category:Game mechanics and Category:Game information. --theSpectator talk 20:08, 28 May 2007 (CDT)
[edit] Template:Expansion over Template:Mod
I created Template:Expansion specifically for Oblivion expansions (if there is more than Shivering Isles in the future). Even if SI is the only expansion to be released for Oblivion, SI isn't a mod in the same sense that the other official plug-ins (DLCs) are. Plus, the wording of Template:Mod wouldn't match what is the SI expansion, and any future expansions. Feel free to change the wording of the expansion template. Should colors change too to distinguish it from the mod template, or is it currently good? Comments, suggestions, criticisms, etc welcome. --theSpectator talk 01:07, 6 June 2007 (CDT)
- Nevermind. Just appended the mod template with "or expansion" at the end and redirected the other template. --theSpectator talk 19:49, 6 June 2007 (CDT)
[edit] MW 1.10.0
Tomorrow around this time I'll probably upgrade us to MW 1.10.0 finally. Assuming things go smoothly, all the wikis will be set to read only for a little while as I upgrade each. --Fyren 03:39, 8 June 2007 (CDT)
- Upgraded. As a side note, metawm:ParserFunctions are now installed. Use my talk page on GW if anything is wrong. --Fyren 03:39, 9 June 2007 (CDT)
[edit] Database dumps
The OblivioWiki (and other GameWiki) dumps are now available from my personal mirror. —Tanaric 18:47, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] some wikipedia oblivion articles up for deletion ... transwiki candidates?
(don't know where else to post this for this wiki ...)
There are some wikipedia articles up for deletion. Some may duplicate content on this wiki already but others (eg, Septim bloodline) do not. If anyone has dealt with transwikis before, or if there is a recommended, least-painful, process, FYI:

[edit] Help
Any time I make potions or enchant armour or weapons they are there for my game, but when I save my game and sign off, the next time I sign in the portions and enchanted items are missing. What am I doing wrong? Rebecca.
- Are you playing on PC, Xbox, or PS3? If you are playing on PC, are you running any mods (official DLCs excluded)? If you haven't already, perhaps you should try starting a new game (without overwriting your old saves, and without running any mods if you are on PC version) and then as soon as you can try some basic alchemy, save your game, and reload and see what happens. \*\ Hellhound43 17:08, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Its the reference glitch. Download all official and unofficial patches and that should help. 75.67.98.136 18:00, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Architecture
I'm doing a project on Rome and Alexandria for Social Studies. Since Oblivion looks very Roman, I was going to videotape my character walking through imperial city(Rome) and Anvil and Leyawiin(Alexandria) and talk through the way. Does anyone have any useful mods that could help or make the architecture more Roman? Thanks.
