The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

From the OblivioWiki – your guide to everything Oblivion

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is the third installment of The Elder Scrolls Series of games released by Bethesda Softworks. The game takes place on the island-district of Vvardenfell, which is part of the Imperial province of Morrowind. The player begins as a prisoner on a prison ship that docks at the fishing village and port of Seyda Neen. The player is released from captivity by the Emperor himself and given a secret mission with the Blades relating to the return to power of Dagoth Ur and his dark cohorts on Red Mountain.

[edit] Gameplay

Much like Oblivion, Morrowind is a non-linear RPG. At any time during the game, the player may:

  • Progress through the main quest and uncover the truth behind the political powers on Vvardenfell.
  • Join one of three great houses – the traditional Redoran great house, the Empire-friendly Hlaalu great house, or the secretive and chaotic Telvanni great house.
  • Join any of the other major factions: the Fighters Guild, the Thieves Guild, the Mage's Guild, the Imperial Legion, the Imperial Cult, and the Tribunal Temple.
  • Complete a large number of side-quests throughout the land.
  • Become a vampire and join one of the three vampire clans.
  • Freelance adventure including dungeon-delving, house-robbing, or killing every NPC in the game.

[edit] Expansions

There are two expansions for Morrowind:

  • The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal, released November 6, 2002
    • The story of Tribunal takes place in Mournhold, the capital city of Morrowind. The quest begins when the player is attacked by a Dark Brotherhood assassin after resting which eventually leads the player to Mournhold.
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon, released June 3, 2003
    • The Bloodmoon expansion takes place on the island of Solstheim. The quest begins when the player asks an NPC on Vvardenfell about Solsthiem, and is told to take a boat there from the fishing village of Khuul on northern Vvardenfell.

Bethesda Softworks has also released several free official plug-ins for Morrowind, which can be found and downloaded at The Elder Scrolls official website.
